Land survey for Development of Trivandrum International Airport Begins

Thiruvananthapuram: The land survey will soon begin for for the acquisition of around 18 acres for the development of Trivandrum International Airport with the consent of the locals.

With the social impact assessment (SIA) study completed in the 18 acres in Vallakadavu and Vayyamoola areas, the District Collector K Vasuki visited the area in person and requested the residents to allow the land survey. The land acquisition of 18 acres will help develop existing airport with facilities for more flights to operate.

The land survey initially slated to begin along with the SIA study in November, 2017 , but as per the residents demanded the survey started only after the completion of SIA study.

In the two-hour-long meeting held at Vallakadavu, the residents expressed their fear on payment of compensation and likely loss of livelihood due to eviction for land acquisition. The District Collector, however, cleared all their all apprehensions on compensation and rehabilitation, and promised market price of the land. She also said that the government will consider their other demands such as house and job at the airport.
