The Airport Authority of India (AAI) is all set to introduce the first international courier facility at Trivandrum International Airport from 2018. It is most likely to start functioning from January of next year. The International Courier facility will be managed by AAI Cargo Logistics and Allied Services Company Ltd (AAICLAS), a subsidiary of the Airport Authority of India.
For this purpose the AAI will acquire a building constructed by Kerala State Industrial Enterprises Ltd (KSIE) at Chackai side of the airport. It will also use an X-ray machine bought by Trivandrum International Airport for this purpose.
Initially, the AAICLAS is planning to outsource the courier service to an agency for the management of the international courier. The AAI expects to increase its revenue through the facility.
Airport director George G Tharakan said that the courier facility was introduced as per the assessment of demand from airlines. Mr. Tharakan also said, “With the availability of basic infrastructure facility of a building and the X-ray machine, there will not be much delay for launching the facility. All the mandatory clearances have been received from customs and AAI headquarters. We expect good response from airlines.”
