Bengali, Rajasthani communities in Trivandrum plan big for the upcoming Navarathri Festival

Thiruvananthapuram: Withe the Navarathri festival round the corner, different communities from other states who have made Trivandrum their hometown have also started preparations to celebrate Navarathri in traditional ways. The Bengali and Rajasthani communities have organized various programmes during the celebration. The Tamil community is also planning to celebrate the festival with with splendor this year.

The Bengali community is also planning a food fest, ‘Anandhamela’ that focus on authentic Bengali dishes, which will be the highlight of the Durga Pooja festival organized by the Trivandrum Bengali Association. The Bengali food fest to be conducted on Friday evening at Hassan Marakar hall with ethnic Bengali sweets like rasagula and gulab jamun and vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes including kachouri with stuffed peas, luchi, vegetable chop, egg rolls, aloordum, aloo paratha, mutton kasak and chicken rezala. Apart from this, they are also conducting various cultural programmes as part of the four-day celebrations at the Hassan Marakar Hall located near AKG Centre at Palayam. The programs will conclude with children’s drawing competition and Ashok Banarjee memorial essay competition.

The Rajasthan Samaj in Trivandrum will organize a Durga pooja, Garba Raas and Dandiya Raas at Kovalam on Friday.

However, the Gujarati Samaj will not be organizing any celebrations this year due to the demise of Heera Lal J Patel, who was the eldest member of their community.

he Tamil community in the city will celebrate Navarathri as usual by organizing bommakkolu at their homes.
