Trivandrum Corporation Removed Waste Near Airport to Control ‘bird problem’

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram has all the necessary steps to address the ‘bird problem’ near the Trivandrum airport. There has been a recent hike in problems cause by birds hits at Trivandrum. About 145 loads of waste dumped at Parvathy Puthanar under Ponnara bridge in Muttathara has been removed by authorities on Friday.

The spot has become increasingly used for dumping meat and poultry waste in big gunny bags. These wastes has attracted scavenger birds like crow and eagles to that has affected the operation of flights from the airport. Mayor of Trivandrum Corporation Mr. V K Prasanth said, “The waste removal has partly addressed the bird problem. We have asked airport authorities to keep steel nets to prevent people from throwing waste.”

He also said that night squad will be deployed by the Corporation to prevent people from dumping waste. The removal of the waste has cause Corporation an expense of around of 2 lakhs.
